After the first meeting adjourned, the City Council briefly met for a second time during a special meeting called for by 30 aldermen to grill city leaders about Chicago’s summer safety plan.

However, the leaders who were asked to attend the meeting did not show up. Lightfoot, who serves as the president of the City Council, also did not attend. The meeting was adjourned after a public comment period.
The City Council also approved Bally’s $1.7 billion casino and entertainment venue in River West at the meeting.
