Pritzker’s announcement came on the immediate heels of an Illinois Supreme Court decision that vacated a lower court’s restraining order, which Pritzker welcomed. “If a school mask mandate needs to go into effect in the future, we continue to have that authority,” he said in a statement.
Today’s ruling is the latest in a long series of legal contests to the governor’s COVID mitigations. The first ruling on this case at the start of the month led to mass confusion at school districts across the state, prompting some to close, shift to mask-optional, or allow only students whose families were part of previous lawsuits to forego mask wearing.
