Chicago Teen Charged With Battery, Robbery From Incident Onboard Red Line Train | Chicago News

A Chicago woman is facing felony charges after she allegedly hit a man onboard a CTA Red Line train while a group stole the victim’s phone earlier this year.

Tiarra Berry, 19, has been charged with one count each of battery to a transit passenger and robbery stemming from the March 1 incident. A Cook County judge on Wednesday issued Berry a $20,000 D-bond, meaning she must pay 10% of that amount to be released from jail.

Berry was allegedly among a group of four men and five women at the North and Clybourn Red Line station when they boarded a train along with an 18-year-old man. When that man pulled his phone out of his pocket to answer a text, prosecutors said, someone from the group approached him, grabbed the phone and ran off.

As this happened, Berry and the rest of the group allegedly began hitting the victim with closed fists, causing him to fall to the ground. The group eventually fled from the train, while the victim was taken to Northwestern Hospital where he was treated for abrasions to his face, according to prosecutors.

Berry was later identified on surveillance footage of the attack by one of her friends, prosecutors said, and placed under arrest Tuesday. Following that arrest, she allegedly identified herself in still images taken from that footage.

Prosecutors said one other person has previously been arrested and charged in connection to this robbery.

Berry also has pending battery and theft of services cases. She is due back in court for a hearing July 27.
