Thursday, June 16 from 12 pm – 6 pm, the Dearborn Realtist Board(DRB), Chicago’s African-American real estate trade association is taking part in the Juneteenth celebrations at Malcolm X College with the OPRHC and Commissioner Deere.

The Dearborn Realtist Board is the 1st black real estate trade association in the county, chartered 1941. They are the local chapter of the National Association of Real Estate Brokers (NAREB). NAREB has close to 100 chapters across the country.  DRB has been an advocate in black communities for over 81 years.

Last August, the DRB announced a Real Estate Careers initiative at the annual Dearborn Realtist Board’s golf and scholarship event.  This year, they will lead the first Chicago Real Estate Industry Career Expo and Job Fair partnering with the Oak Park Regional Housing Center and Commissioner Deere.

Blacks are regularly passed over jobs because of the lack of experience, the color of their skin, their name, address, or the lack of knowledge about opportunities.  At the Juneteenth celebration, the DRB will provide information and education on the types of careers available in the real estate industry. Companies will also be present to interview and screen candidates for jobs and internships.

President of the Dearborn Realtist Board(DRB), Gwen Newton says, ” Financial literacy and workforce development are keys to closing the racial wealth gap and it’s our hope to impact our communities around owning real estate”.
