July 14, 2022 by Abbie Falpando-Knepp

What was your most interesting job before going into real estate?
Professional photographer.

Where did you grow up?
Evanston, Ill.

Growing up, what did you want to be?
A photographer.

What do you do to relax when you’re stressed?
Walk my Husky, yoga and meditation.

If you could meet any well-known figure (living or not), who would it be and why?
Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

What is Chicago’s best-kept secret?
The authentic Italian restaurants. Nothing like them.

What do you love most about the industry?
Meeting new people and developing wonderful friendships long after the transaction is done.

How do you distinguish yourself from the crowd of agents?
My relationships are a testimony. I’m not transactional. I truly care about my clients.

What is the most difficult aspect of your job?
When a deal falls through, I tend to take it hard. Putting forth so much energy and time and letting your client down is the worst part.

What’s your best advice for generating new leads?
Working by referral. Asking your speed for referrals. Staying in touch with past clients.

What has been your greatest accomplishment?
Raising triplets as a single mother selling real estate.

What are you binge-watching/reading/listening to lately?
Watching a docuseries on dogs and I love listening to “Smartless.” It’s a funny podcast featuring Sean Hayes, Will Arnett and Jason Bateman

What’s your favorite meal in Chicago?
Eggplant parm at any hole-in-the-wall in the city.

Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in Chicago?
The Field Museum.

What’s the weirdest thing that’s ever happened to you on the job?
I set off an alarm when entering one of my listings. The cops came, guns drawn. I made the cops look at the house.

What’s one thing people are surprised to learn about you?
That I have triplets.

What is your favorite vacation spot and why?
The Cape. Chatham, Mass. My in-laws had a beautiful house there. It was so peaceful, the ocean. Day trips to Nantucket. Just fabulous.

In 10 words or less, what is your advice for someone new to the industry?
Not only must you learn how to sell real estate you must learn how to run your own business.

What’s your favorite real estate iPhone/Android app?
Showing Time. It makes work so much easier.

Who are your favorite people to follow on social media?
Sebastian Maniscalco and Amy Sedaris.
